Brazos Lakes (Map) is a country subdivision started in the country about 1999 five miles south of the freeway US 59 in the Richmond area. There are two major lakes with many lake view lots. Fishing is encouraged with no motor boats on the lakes. There are nature trails along Dutch John Creek and Live Oak Creek Some lots have trees although most are open land. Lot size is usually one to two acres with some three acre lots. Some lots are available in the $80,000 to $100,000 range. Requred house size is above 2400 sq.ft. and the community has a home owners association. Home prices vary from $300,000 to $425,000.
Public Schools are in Lamar ISD with Velasquez Elementary School, Reading Junior High School and George Ranch High School. Wharton County Junior College and the University of Houston have campuses nearby. Texas State Technical College has an new campus featuring 7 technical training programs to produce skilled workers. TSTC is a legitimate state sponsored school.
